RESUMO:

Context: Systems are built based on an architecture which indicates its structure of elements and components, internal and external, as well as their relationships. In addition, the system architecture also defines principles and rules to support the process of evolution of the system as a whole. However, systems architectures do not evolve at the same pace as more modern technologies, which makes it difficult to integrate them with newer systems, resulting in complexity for their evolution. This challenge becomes more evident in the face of the recent processes of digital transformation of organizations where systems such as information and communication technologies become a means of delivering more efficient products and services. Gap: The digital transformation demands from companies more integrations between products and services, more channels of use of access to products and services and, mainly, more agility to make products and services available and IT departments, need to deliver more functionalities in a smaller way. period of time. To this end, technology efforts have been to seek ways to make specific changes to systems without compromising the entire platform, testing only what is necessary to test, reducing the complexity of system changes, decreasing the complexity of tests and delivering systems with meet large volumes of access. For such purposes, monolithic systems pose a major complexity problem for IT departments, which end up with the need to modernize and evolve these systems with modern architectures capable of meeting these needs. Objective: Thus, the main objective of this master's thesis is to present a methodology capable of modernizing monolithic systems in modern architectures and living with a monolithic system and a case study of a company in the financial sector in Brazil. The architecture and methodology presented, allows the modernization of the system gradually according to the business priorities agenda. Methods: A systematic mapping of the literature was carried out in order to analyze the existing literature that deals with the modernization of systems with the purpose of characterizing the current state of the art in relation to existing works in the area of software engineering and architecture. systems. Through the theory of practice a real case study of the financial sector in Brazil was analyzed with a modernization process, where it takes into account the modernization of systems according to the agenda of business priorities, then carrying out this modernization through functional cuts of the monolithic system and creating integration between modern systems and the monolithic system. A qualitative research was conducted to extract the adherence, coherence and efficiency of the methodology from the company's technology professionals. Results: The results of the qualitative research application in a real team that uses the methodology, shows that although the process is coherent and adherent, companies that need to modernize systems and cannot fail to meet business goals in advancing to improve existing functionalities or create new functionalities in existing monolithic systems in the company. Conclusions: This master's thesis presented important results for the state of the art of software engineering, which corroborate with the research directions identified in the systematic mapping. The main contribution concerns the need for a system modernization methodology that has synergy with the companies' business initiatives, since modernizing systems and making architectural changes requires a considerable amount of time from the IT department, for this this modernization of systems it must happen gradually, prioritized and with cuts in a monolithic system maintaining integrations between modern and monolithic systems to maintain the integrity and coherence of the information.
