TRANSLINGUISTIC INFLUENCES IN PORTUGUESE-ENGLISH BILINGUAL CHILDREN AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH LINGUISTIC EXPERIENCE DATA AND EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS
Bilingualism is becoming increasingly common in the globalized world and is a source of research in several areas. In Cognitive Neuroscience, the possible cognitive advantages are discussed, especially in relation to inhibitory control, which is part of the set of functions called “executive”. The inhibition x lexical access relationship has been an important research question, mainly relating lexical access to cross-linguistics influences: code-mixing and code-switching. Despite this, little research has been Within this theme, the relationship and association between data from measures of executive functions and cross-linguistics influences in bilinguals who learn English at school and bilinguals of additional language, who use English at home will be investigated. The differences and peculiarities of bilingual acquisition will be investigated and analyzed, taking into account the association between acquisition processes among bilingual children within the continuum of bilingualism proposed by François Grosjean (1992). In addition, we will investigate the association between performance in executive function tasks, such as (Simon Task and Code Switching), with data from bilingual experience (age of acquisition, context of acquisition, and proficiency) and the occurrence of cross-linguistic influences.
