TITLE:

Data integration to build statistical models for prediction of neurodevelopment as a function of exposure to stressors

PAGES: 50
BIG AREA: Outra
AREA: Multidisciplinar
SUMMARY:

Neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders include heterogeneous conditions with multifactorial and polygenic etiology. However, evidence suggests that prenatal stressful events contribute in different ways to fetal programming, influencing the outcome of its neurodevelopment and acting in the predisposition to these conditions in their etiology. Schizophrenia, Depression, Brain Paralysis, Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) comprise some of the conditions, discussed in the literature, in which fetal programming may have a decisive contribution to its etiology. Within this scenario, the placenta plays a fundamental role in maintaining fetal homeostasis, acting during pregnancy as an important intermediary in the maternal-fetal relationship. Prenatal stress also influences placental programming, causing changes in its methylome, in the expression of its genes and ultimately in its function. The characterization of the maternal and fetal alterations are essential for the identification of biological predictors of neurodevelopmental outcomes, in addition to being essential in understanding their mechanisms. Therefore, through machine learning strategies combined with complex network analysis, the present work proposes to integrate and analyze different types of omics and clinical data, in order to characterize placental, maternal and infant alterations resulting from prenatal stress, thus enabling the development of predictive models of the outcome of the neurodevelopment.
