Characterization of writing skills in groups of students from 1st to 5th grades of elementary school and development of a battery of tests for the assessment of writing

SUMMARY:

Writing is a complex skill that requires the integrity of cognitive, linguistic and sensorimotor functions for its perfect performance. The present study has as general objective to characterize the processes, linguistic processes and writing engines in a sample of 105 students from 1st to 5th grades of elementary school in a public school in the ABC region of Greater São Paulo. The specific objectives are: (1) to evaluate the development of writing words and pseudowords, texts from sequence of figures and kinematic aspects during a copy task, comparing the performance on these tasks among children from first to fifth year of elementary school; (2)Identify whether the tests used distinguish children considered to be in typical writing development from those assessed by their teachers as behind the school grade and (3) investigate the contribution of the online assessment methodology to the perception of literacy teachers in relation to students' writing. For the qualifying exam, we present the complete study 1 and the outline of studies 2 and 3.
