TITLE:
THE USE OF FAILURE PREDICTION TOOLS AS A BASIS IN THE DECISION SYSTEM EXPERIENCED IN THE
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESS

SUMMARY:
Technological advances and the ever-changing world foster Industry 4.0, which brings innovation and new ways
of producing. In this context, Additive Manufacturing, especially 3D printing through fusion and deposition
modeling, becomes relevant in the search for waste reduction, flexibility and costs. Process managers envision a
window of opportunity in the production chain, however it is necessary to know and control failure modes, low
reliability, losses caused by errors and difficulty in operational controls. Applied descriptive and exploratory
research aims to study some of the relevant failure modes, in particular the impacts of vibration and temperature
on 3D printing processes through the use of laboratory experiments and the application of monitoring and
prediction tools that allow to increase the reliability of these processes, reduce waste and, mainly, bring
robustness to them. Given this scenario, the main objective of this work is to generate a failure prediction model
using sensors available on the market, of low cost and ease of application, which allow system users to reduce
losses due to rework, reprocessing, loss of raw material and energy costs, through the generation of data to
support the best decision, bringing greater sustainability to the organizational model. Among the
achievements of the work, a bibliographical review was carried out in order to identify the main failures as
well as the motivators that occur in the 3D printing processes and how they affect the quality of the produced
parts, in addition, opportunities were sought in the literature. of sensing and a modeling that allows the
application of these as support to the decision.
