Social participation in Mercosur: The trajectory of an unfulfilled agenda
This dissertation analyzes, from historical and documentary research, the dynamics of social participation in Mercosur and provides elements to understand the dynamics of interaction between the state bureaucracies that run the bloc and the civil societies of the countries that compose it, seeking to understand the decisions taken over time by Mercosur with regard to social participation in the bloc. Finally, it reflects on the integration model pursued by Mercosur and how this model negatively affects the promotion of participatory democracy, which would have the capacity to overcome the democratic deficit to which the region's governments are subject and aim for an effective integration of peoples, in the sense of its real involvement in the decision-making processes of the bloc and in the conformation of a new dynamic of participation that empowers the bloc through the involvement of civil society in decision-making processes that impact the directions of integration.
