INEQUALITIES OF OPPORTUNITIES IN EDUCATION PERFORMANCE
The importance of education inspire this research. There are several difficulties to understand which aspects are associated with it to promote human development. Education is a multidimensional variable that affects and be affected by social context and because this it is complex to define any performance measure. Nevertheless, standardized tests, such as those from Prova Brasil, have been recurrently used as a measure of education quality, although they do not reflect the multiple dimensions that may influence such results. To contribute to the understanding the inequalities present in Brazil regarding education, this research aims to identify inequalities of opportunities among Brazilian students. To reach the main goal two empirical strategies are used, described into two essays. The first essay aims to identify factors that are independent of the student's initiative or effort and that may impact on the results of Prova Brasil 2017 standardized tests, based on the model initially proposed by Roemer (1998) and applying the strategy developed by Ferreira-Gignoux (2011). The second essay purpose is to identify whether there are differences in Enade test results among students who attend classroom or distance education.
