In Cinema 1: The Movement-Image and Cinema 2: The Time-Image, Deleuze builds upon an analysis of Bergsonian philosophy in order to establish his own philosophy of cinema. The concept of movement, present in Creative Evolution, and of image, in Matter and Memory, are key elements in this process, especially in Cinema 1, a work focused on pre-war cinema. From then on, other Bergsonian concepts would come to be used with a cinematographic bias. In Cinema 2, an opus in which Deleuze deals with post-war avant-garde cinema, the concept of image-time emerges and connects with other layers of Bergsonian thought. Bergson, who experienced cinema in its early days (late 19th and early 20th centuries), comes up with a conception that is very different to that developed by Deleuze's philosophy later. Despite this, his critique of the way in which we build our notion of movement as humans ends up being directly connected to post-montage cinema, fertilizing a rich soil of philosophical analyses of the seventh art. Over the course of four commentaries on Bergson, Deleuze fuses his Philosophy of Cinema with Bergsonian philosophy and shows us great possible interlocutions between art and philosophy, even materializing a common field: duration, which Bergson defines as a philosophical concept and which Deleuze shows is, in fact, represented in cinema. The methodology employed in this research focused on analyzing primary bibliographic material produced by both authors, as well as establishing dialogues with other researchers who have discussed the subject.
