Between liberalism and socialism: Norberto Bobbio, thinker of democracy
This master's thesis discusses the political thought of the Italian philosopher and jurist Norberto Bobbio (1909-2004), having democracy and its connection with the principles of liberalism and the goals of the socialist tradition as its focus and thematic core. Based on an interpretation in which modern democracy would have been the unfolding of the evolution of political liberalism, and socialism a project resulting from a radicalization of this conception of liberal democracy, Bobbio elaborated an ideological and political “syncretism”, as himself states, in that his conception of democracy is expressed in the combination of principles of liberalism with the purposes of socialism.
