Description of new Anhangueridae (Reptilia, Pterosauria, Pterodactyloidea) specimens from the Santana Group (Aptian–Albian) of the Araripe Basin
The Anhangueridae are Cretaceous pterosaurs widely recorded in the Santana Group (Crato and Romualdo formations, Araripe Basin), characterized by sagittal crests and elongated rostra adapted to piscivory. This study integrates data from comparative anatomy, phylogenetic analysis, and morphometrics in anhanguerid specimens. The results include the description of an associated postcranial skeleton with a mandible (MCT.R.1491), expanding the number of specimens with correlation between cranial and postcranial elements; the first record of a mandibular crest in Brasileodactylus araripensis (MCT.R.1473), with implications for the evolution of sagittal crests; and the identification of a new species from the Crato Formation (CCNH 801). Taken together, the results contribute to the understanding of the diversity and morphological variation of Anhanguerinae, providing more data for systematic revisions of the group in the Araripe Basin.
