ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ELECTORAL CAMPAIGNS OF 2020: Actors and implications for democracy
This dissertation aims to map the use of artificial intelligence techniques in electoral campaigns for Mayor of São Paulo in 2020, in order to analyze possible implications for democracy. We start from the hypothesis that the use of machine learning and natural language processing techniques is being concentrated by large platforms, either through their proprietary algorithms, or by companies that develop products and services for the digital environment. In order to map the use of artificial intelligence, we interviewed electoral campaigns, campaign coordinators and companies. Based on the mapping undertaken, we intend to analyze the direct or indirect participation of large platforms in the electoral campaigns for Mayor of São Paulo in 2020, as well as possible implications for democracy.
