RESIST CAPITALOCENE, (UN) THINK THE ECONOMY: From Development without Alternatives to Alternatives to Development in Latin America
We are under collapse. However, we have arrived here not only through the mode of production that generates the development of destructive forces, but also through the model of thought that shapes it. Despite the different means to reach it, hegemonic lefts and rights agree at some ends. Growth, development, paradigmaGDP increase, etc., are paradigms that produce a convergence between political fields, sometimes less antagonistic than we think. How are established the mental structures that make these tacit consensus possible? How do these consensus influenced policy execution in the era of progressive governments in Latin America? How to overcome these modern and developmentalist worldviews breaking with the hegemonic imaginary, finding ways out of the collapse of Capitalist Modernity? To answer these questions, we aim to: understand how Capitalist Modernity becomes a geopolitics and worldview that allows the Capitalocene; explain how Latin America, a victim of modernization, has produced both progressive governments that succumbed to developmentalism and creative dissidents of this imaginary; then we also aim to show an insufficiency of the growth economy indexes and paradigms; to, finally, point out theories, such as Buen Vivir and Degrowth, in addition to political examples and practices that can be a South for the creation of societies based on low entropy in community. Therefore, our study concluded that the challenge which we are facing is even bigger than we thought: to overcome not only capitalism, but also modernity, inventing an economy that fits inside the biosphere again.
