Social Networking Sites and the Ethnic Economy: A Study on Afro-Entrepreneurship in Brazil
The objective of this dissertation is to study Afro-Entrepreneurship in Brazil and its general objective is to understand the approximations and distances between Afro-Entrepreneurship and Ethnic Economy Theory (LIGHT, 2005, 2013, GOLD, 1989). To do so, we chose as the field of analysis the social networks on the internet (RECUERO, 2009) from pages of the social media site Facebook that deal with the theme Afroempreendedorismo, which are Afropreneurs business or related groups and associations. As a methodological complement we apply a questionnaire directed to afropreneurs and a semi-structured interview with those responsible for the pages that stood out in the analysis of the network. We observed a network with communities with diversity of themes, social problems and dense detail of Afro-entrepreneurs' experiences.
